Telluride is worth a visit for sure! From superb hiking trails, steep mountains with wonderful views, free gondola rides and a cute town with a great relaxed vibe, we absolutely loved our trip into this beautiful area!
Here is our vanlife traveling guide for Telluride Colorado:
Telluride is not only a great getaway if you are visiting and staying in a hotel or airbnb but also awesome for vanlife! With great camping options, public toilets and inexpensive hot showers at the Town Park you are good to go!
Although the town has pretty strict parking rules, there are a couple of parking garages in town as well as a large parking lot (located at the beginning of the main street into town) that allow parking overnight.
But even better, there is beautiful National Forest all around this area and you can find places to camp through the National Forest Service.
Also iOverlander.com, campendium.com and freecampsites.net have a few good listings in the area.
If you prefer, you can camp at the only campground in town called Town Park (first come first serve and fills up early in the day). It’s a part of the Telluride Parks and Recreation Dpt.
There is a nice large swimming pool, tennis and volleyball courts at the Town Park as well. The good thing is, you don’t have to camp at the Town Park to be able to use the hot showers, they’re only a few dollars, just pay at the parks office.
We loved living the van life in Telluride and slept in the National Forest, during the day went for great hikes and in the evening used the Town Park hot showers and toilets before going back to the National Forest to park overnight. Perfect!
Our favorite hikes were on the Jud Wiebe and Sneffels Highline Trail. Such great views! We also took the free gondola up to Telluride/Mountain Village and back up to San Sophia Station which is the summit at 10,540 ft where we got off and enjoyed the incredible sweeping 365-degree views of the San Juan mountains before we hiked down into town.
