Durango and Ouray Colorado

Durango and Ouray Colorado

Durango and Ouray are beautiful places to visit on your roadtrip through Colorado! We had so much fun exploring the area and driving on the stunning Million Dollar Highway and enjoyed free camping in the National Forest and BLM land, hiking on various trails and dipping in the hot springs in Ouray. It was Vanlife at its best!

Here’s our favorite places:

Free Camping:

National Forest camping near Little Molas Lake:

GPS: 37.744870, -107.705163

The campendium description is for the campground loop up on Little Molas Lake but we found it too crowded up there and instead found a great equestrian-friendly campsite along Rd 584 while driving up towards Little Molas Lake. Nice and private!

Vegan-Friendly Restaurants in Durango:

College Drive Cafe

Grassburger

The Living Treeh

Himalayan Kitchen

Vegan friendly restaurants in Ouray are rare, some restaurants had a couple options but we did not like the quality or taste. This one was our favorite:

Ouray Brewery

There is so much to do in this area, from endless hiking, river rafting and cycling just to name a few. Also so many options for camping in the surrounding area. We absolutely love Hot Springs and highly recommend a visit to Ouray’s Hot Spring. Go in the evening and enjoy the magic views.

Cell Signal can be tricky outside of towns out in Colorado and as we use Verizon, it was a bit of a struggle to get enough signal to get some work done which for us as digital nomads is important to get cell connection or signal for our wifi hotspot. We use a WeBoost signal booster device which was very helpful in improving the signal enough to get some work done.

We love Colorado and highly recommend taking a road trip and enjoying the beautiful mountains in the area.
