The Cobblestone Farmers Market in Old Salem, Winston-Salem NC is a must see for any farm to table and food lover! From the setting in the historic town of Old Salem to the beautiful presentation of goods that shows the producers love and passion for their craft, this market is a jewel and deserves its award for “America’s Best Farmer’s Markets” by U.S. News and World Report.
The market is dedicated to sustainable food growers and producers from the local area, North Western Piedmont and Southern Virginia regions. Cobblestone producers embrace good, clean and fair practices that steward the land and ensure humane practices to animals. Most of the produce and products are certified organic and the selection ranges from vegetables, fruits, meats, cheeses, breads, flowers, jam, wine, coffee, tea, baked goods and much more. We visited the area on our travel in September and fell in love with this market. We filled our baskets and had a feast for a whole week. The locally grown produce was harvested the night before the market and it was full of flavor, juiciness and wonderful taste. And because the quality of produce is so good, it is easy to make a super delicious meal out of a few simple ingredients.
The first meal we made was a simple farm to table salad with fresh baked bread. Here’s the recipe for this healthy and simple vegan salad mentioned in our video:
Vegan Farm To Table Salad Recipe
Kale and/or Lettuce
Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Avocado Oil
White Wine Vinegar
Wash and drain all produce, cut the onion into small slices, cut the rest of the ingredients into bite-sized pieces and put all in a bowl. Stir together the oil, vinegar, mustard and season to your liking, then mix the dressing into the salad. Serve with fresh bread and hummus as a meal or as an appetizer or side dish. Enjoy!
